Hi Strong North Tahoe Member,

A community e-bike ride, car caravan, and gathering are being organized around the Lake Tahoe Summit this Wednesday, August 19, and I wanted to make sure you had the information if you’d like to participate.
|
Different groups and residents will be bringing different issues, questions, and perspectives. From a Strong North Tahoe perspective, I see this as another opportunity to keep the conversation going.
|
Bring the question that matters to you. Bring the issue you think decision-makers should better understand. Bring your perspective on what Tahoe communities need.
|
One of the larger questions I’ve been carrying forward is: Are California and the agencies making decisions for Tahoe working from an accurate enough picture of the demand our communities actually carry?
|
And looking ahead: What are the first steps residents, local agencies, and state decision-makers can each take to help build a more accurate picture of that reality?

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19: RIDE, CARAVAN + COMMUNITY GATHERING
Gather: 7:00 a.m.
Depart: 7:30 a.m. sharp
Start: Kings Beach State Recreation Area
Destination: Sand Harbor
|
Tahoe SPARK is organizing the ride and community gathering.
|
You can participate in several ways:
|
- Ride with the group from Kings Beach.
- Join the car caravan.
- Meet the group along the route.
- Drive over separately.
- Or meet everyone at Sand Harbor.
- You do not need a Tahoe Summit ticket to participate in the community gathering in the picnic area near the Sand Harbor Visitor Center.
The Summit itself is a secured, ticketed event, and signs are not permitted inside the secured Summit area. Signs can remain with the community gathering in the designated picnic area.

BIKE ROUTE
The group will leave Kings Beach State Recreation Area at 7:30 a.m. sharp and travel along SR 28 toward Crystal Bay.
|
Where the bike lane ends, riders will continue together on SR 28 and turn onto Lakeshore Drive.
|
|
The group plans to stop near the Burnt Cedar area for a group photograph.
|
From there, riders will continue to the East Shore Trailhead, walk bikes across the SR 28 crosswalk, and use the East Shore Trail into Sand Harbor.
|
A free bike valet is expected to be available at Sand Harbor.
|
IF YOU’RE DRIVING
Car travelers can follow behind the riders safely or meet the group at the Burnt Cedar stop.
|
|
Drivers may also travel separately and meet the group closer to Sand Harbor.
|
|
Parking near the East Shore Trailhead/Tunnel Creek area is paid and first-come, first-served. From there, participants can use bus transportation to Sand Harbor.

Vehicles parked where prohibited may be ticketed or towed.

AT SAND HARBOR
The community gathering area will be in the picnic area in front of the Visitor Center. You can join the gathering even if you do not have a Summit ticket.

Bring a sign if you’d like, or simply come with your questions and perspective.
|
RETURN TO KINGS BEACH
|
Two group return rides are planned:
|
|
10:15 a.m. = First group departs Sand Harbor and returns to Kings Beach together.
|
12:15 p.m. = Second group meets near the Sand Harbor boat ramp and returns together.
|
Both groups plan to return by the same general route.

Because the route crosses the California-Nevada state line, riders are responsible for following the laws, trail rules, posted restrictions, and instructions from law enforcement and park staff that apply along the route.

ONE LAST THOUGHT
You do not have to agree with every organization, every issue, or every proposed solution to participate in the larger conversation.
|
For me, Wednesday is another opportunity to ask: What do decision-makers need to understand about the communities that live with, support, and help sustain Tahoe every day?
|
