Making Streets for People Not Just Cars in Kings Beach

Join us for a Strong North Tahoe session focused on transforming Kings Beach into a safer, more pedestrian-friendly place. Our goal is to create streets that prioritize people over cars, ensuring safer routes to school, enjoyable walking and biking paths, and smart parking solutions that enhance our town’s vibrancy.

Why This Matters:

Kings Beach is a unique and beautiful community perfect for walking, biking, and enjoying local businesses and the beach. However, speeding cars and heavy traffic often make it hazardous for pedestrians and cyclists. Together, we can change this and make Kings Beach a safer, more connected place for everyone.

What to Expect:

  • Safe Streets: Learn about initiatives to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring everyone feels secure on our roads.
  • Productive Streets: Discover how well-designed streets can boost our local economy by making it easier and safer for people to move around.
  • Parking Management: Understand how smart parking reforms can slow down traffic and create a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

Key Topics:

  • Effective traffic calming methods.
  • The benefits of active streets and road narrowing for pedestrian safety.
  • The community impact of speeding and car-focused streets.

Event Extras:

  • Location Perks: We have reserved the entire outdoor picnic table area, and the sandbar will be open, serving drinks and a limited menu for us.
  • Live Music: Enjoy music by Andre, a local musician who regularly plays at Jason’s. Andre will provide a chill musical backdrop to our discussions and will also assist with the projector and screen for presentations.

Agenda

  • 6:00 PM: Doors open, Sand Bar open
  • 6:15 PM: Mingle and music
  • 7:00 PM: Background and big picture message with 4-core principles and tonight’s focus on safe and productive streets, KB commercial core, and current planning

  • 8:30 PM: Presentation by Andrew on sidewalk advocacy for safe routes to schools, traffic calming and cut-through strategies, edge-setting
