Strong North Tahoe’s Core Focuses

At Strong North Tahoe, we believe in shaping our community through smart, locally driven solutions. Our work is rooted in four key principles from Strong Towns, guiding us toward a future where our communities thrive. We invite you to join us in this effort!

1. Bottom-Up Approach

Too often, decisions in North Tahoe come from the top down, leaving community voices unheard. We push for a different way: small, community-led efforts that reflect our needs. Whether it’s advocating for safe streets, fixing issues with past projects like Secline, or shaping parking policies that work for residents, we focus on practical, local action.

2. Incremental Redevelopment and Housing

Instead of relying on massive, top-down projects, we believe in small, sustainable growth. In Kings Beach, the downtown improvement project and new housing options have proven how small-scale changes can bring real benefits. We support policies that make it easier to build missing middle housing—duplexes, triplexes, and small-scale apartments—so locals can find homes they can afford.

3. Transparent Local Accounting

Public money should serve the community—not just big developments or outside investors. We demand clear, accessible information on how our tax dollars are used, from business district funding to street repairs. Our goal is to ensure local investments strengthen our towns and neighborhoods in ways that benefit everyone.

4. Safe and Productive Streets

Our streets should work for people, not just cars. That means safer routes for kids walking to school, better sidewalks and bike lanes, and smart parking policies that improve—not hinder—local businesses and community life. Whether it’s keeping crosswalks safe or making sure our bike paths are plowed in winter, we’re fighting for streets that serve everyone.
