Many areas of Europe and especially tourist destinations limit auto access to “residents only” in certain neighborhoods and clearly marked “zones”. They again do it with plate registration and recognition. Delivery or work related vehicles going to a job would be exempt. Helps keep traffic to main roads.
Maybe just clear designation and warning signs would be a good start to keep unintended traffic to Rt 28 in KB.
Have to figure out how to stop google maps from giving any alternative through grid because of traffic backup. See screenshot

This is used in Berkeley as well. Some streets are bikes only (except for residents who live on that street).
