We just published a new Strong North Tahoe piece looking at Placer County’s request to reconsider Kings Beach for Opportunity Zone 2.0 designation.

Tuesday’s Board discussion started with a federal investment incentive, but it opened a much bigger Kings Beach conversation: what happens if projects that have struggled financially begin to pencil?
|
The story starts along Highway 28, where the potential for long-awaited reinvestment is easy to picture. But the proposed Opportunity Zone follows the broader census tract uphill into Kings Beach’s residential neighborhoods too.

The designation would not change zoning or approve development. But if it changes the economics around investments and development possibilities that already exist, the effects could reach beyond any one project or redevelopment site.
